so I started thinking about things out at my workshop...

Nail gun
Various crowbars, pry bars etc
Various hammers, in particular..my square headed body hammer(autobody tool) and the persuader(3lb mini sledge)
A rack of misc. Steel pipe and various gauges of flat steel
10 rolls of duct tape, 12 rolls of electrical tape (buy in bulk,folks)
At least a dozen 2x4s
Roughly..?34? Used tires
I'm sure there's more..but I can't think it all at the moment

I could make an abandoned oil rig, fully stocked with enough food to last about 4 years while I get the garden up and running, and still have enough leftovers to build a boat to get me and 80 people there.

First off, "You have no guns or access to guns" is a totally alien concept for me, as is leaving home for a "shelter", but I have:
Machete
samurai sword
batons
aluminum baseball bat
wooden baseball bat
crossbow (actually not as practical as a compound bow, but I already have the crossbow)
bottles of liquor (for molotov cocktails)
golf clubs
lots of knives

in the basement:
shovels
hatchets, hammers, assorted tools (don't want to get that close)
leftover construction materials: 2x4s, nails, conduit pipe, bricks, etc (mortar mix & PVC pipe could make some interesting combinations)
chains
torch & propane tanks
axe
chainsaw

Zip gun.

Possible, but if "You have no guns or access to guns" you wouldn't have ammo for the zip gun.

I'll allow it. Even if it's not used as an offensive weapon, a defensive use would be to wrap your clothes to reinforce against zombie bites.

Didn't they use an IV pole to kill a zombie in one of the later Romero movies? It seemed like a pretty wicked weapon there, probably even more so if you remove the IV bag and stand!

I just had a horrible dream. In it we had a zombie apocalypse, we won the fight and built a new society from the ruins, but that society came to be dominated by lawyers. Worse, civil rights and environmental lawyers who spent the war cowering in underground bunkers, not contributing to the fighting and unwilling to understand that it took extraordinary effort to survive on the surface.

Now we faced enormous restrictions on what we could or couldn't do. It took years to get approval build new things while we got our environmental impact reports approved. The new government was busy trying to confiscate all our weapons and make us take down all of our fortifications. Worse, we all faced war crime, or murder trials for all the zombies we killed.

Good thing it was just a bad dream!

How could you tell the difference between zombies and lawyers. Kill the lawyers along with the zombies.

i don't have a nightstand, i do however have my guns strategically spread across the apartment. never more than 5 feet from a gun, that's my cardinal rule. and the best part is, my girlfriend isn't freaked out by that at all

D5 IV fluid of any type burst is so messy its sticky.. nah.. take the bag down take the center section out and bash zombie skulls.

I have a big bloody axe for firewood. And a sledge hammer. I'd use the axe until it broke and then the hammer until I broke, or got off balance.
Having said that the nearest safe zone would no be within a mile, since the nearest supermarket is 2.5 hours away.

My French chateu is completely unarmed and altogether unprepared for a zombie invasion, but considering I'm surrounded by French people who when zombiefied would surrender to loudly spoken zombie-esh German (Think "Achtung, BRAAAAAAINS"), I think I'd be ok
